Undergraduate placement: a great real world learning experience
21/10/24Cleo Morris, who is studying a degree in Real Estate at Harper Adams University, is currently undertaking her placement year with Forge Property Consultants. Tomorrow, she is returning to her university for the day to take part in its annual Career and Placement Fair (Land, Property and Environment), along with one of the Forge Directors, Tom Mason.
Cleo is looking forward to meeting current second year students on the Forge stand at the fair to talk to them about her experiences so far of her industrial placement year.
Cleo says,
“I am really enjoying doing my placement year at Forge and it all seems to be going very well. I am working on all kinds of different aspects of surveying. The variety of projects I’m involved in has really surprised me. One day I might be doing HMO valuations in the middle of Birmingham, and the next I’m assessing barns in the middle of rural Shropshire!
“When I return to my university course next September I think I’ll really see the impact of this placement year. Rather than studying things in isolation, I’ve seen how they work in the real world, which has hugely increased my understanding of why surveyors do what they do.
“The advice I would give to anyone thinking of doing a placement year is to find somewhere like Forge, where you can get a great range of experience across all the sectors. My time spent with Forge has already confirmed to me that my main interest is in commercial property. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year will bring!”
Director Tom Mason says,
“Students on placement with us follow a structured training plan to support their professional journey towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor. We’re looking forward to meeting this year’s cohort of students and talking to them about their career opportunities.”
