Undergraduate placement: learning all about surveying at Forge
09/10/23Lotti Robinson is currently spending her degree placement year working as an Assistant Surveyor at Forge Property Consultants. She has been busy working across a range of valuations, from residential to commercial properties, writing valuation reports, doing viewings of properties and much more. We caught up with Lotti on a rare day spent in the office to find out how she’s getting on.
How did you come across the placement opportunity at Forge?
The role at Forge was recommended by my lecturer at Harper Adams University. I was looking for a placement opportunity close to home but found that there were opportunities elsewhere. I am glad I kept an open mind and explored what else there was to offer despite not being close to home.
How are you finding working at Forge?
Everyone at Forge has been incredibly welcoming and has eased the transition from being a university student into working in a professional environment. Their goal is to help you succeed and support you as much as they can.
What is the day to day like at Forge?
There is no same day at Forge – each day is different, which makes it exciting. The days go very quickly – there are always jobs to do and tasks to get stuck into.
Which part of the role are you enjoying most?
I think valuations are what I am enjoying most. It’s exciting to see a job through from start to finish and I get a real sense of achievement when it’s complete.
What advice would you give to someone considering studying property at university?
I’m studying a degree in Real Estate at Harper Adams. A placement role like this one is really good as it gives you the opportunity to experience the practical side of the degree after learning the theory at university. It has helped me to understand and put the theory I have learned into practice in real life.
What’s next for you?
I have chosen to follow the Commercial Real Estate Pathway for my APC. The jobs available here can be chosen to help to give me the best exposure and opportunities. I am looking forward to taking on jobs myself and building relationships with clients of my own. I’m excited about the coming months and seeing how I develop further as a placement student.
