Setting standards higher than ever for residential property
01/03/21A new RICS Home Survey Standard is coming into effect today (1 March 2021). The new standard aims to increase consistency, transparency, and competency across residential surveying in the UK. and will be the single standard for condition-based home surveys.
As well as bringing more clarity to the whole process of having a residential survey carried out, the new standard will deliver more open communication. This will make sure everyone buying or selling a property will fully understand the process, the different levels of surveys and what is included in each one.
The benefits to customers include a clear report structure, a new design and name and a traffic light condition ratings system to help make findings more easily understandable.
The new standard for RICS members and regulated firms has been introduced following an in-depth consultation across the industry and with consumers. The concise mandatory requirements establish 'benchmarks' around which firms can design and deliver services that not only meet their clients' needs but that the public can recognise and trust.
Our director Charles Lawson says, “This new standard will become the best practice benchmark for the highest standards in residential surveying. As members of the RICS, we welcome any measure that is going to help maintain the quality of our profession’s services and build trust with our customers.”
From now until the end of August, old and new report formats can be used. From 1st September the new survey reports must be used.
