CLEO'S PLACEMENT YEAR AT FORGE PROPERTY CONSULTANTS

Cleo Morris, Undergraduate, has completed her 12 month placement at Forge Property Consultants, and is returning to Harper Adams to complete the final year of her degree course.  Cleo has worked really hard with us during her placement and we wish her well.

Before she left, we asked Cleo to share some of her thoughts on the value of taking time out of the academic environment.

What have you enjoyed about working at Forge Property Consultants?

Over my time with Forge, I have enjoyed being able to visit a wide range of property types and gain a wide range of experience of different valuation methods which has allowed me to expand on my knowledge learned in lectures from my first two years at university. I have enjoyed seeing how each part of the theory fits into practice in the real world and I hope that the knowledge and experience that I have gained at Forge will put me in a good place for returning to university for my final year and after graduation.

As well as carrying out a wide range of valuation work for secured lending and private clients, I have also had the opportunity to be involved in lettings and property management covering a variety of residential properties in Staffordshire. This has allowed me to gain experience in drafting tenancy agreements, and I have found that following the whole lettings process from start to finish has been very rewarding and provided me with lots of valuable learning experiences and skills to take forward.

Over my placement year, I have also began recording for my APC Diary and I have chosen the Commercial Real Estate pathway. Overall, I am pleased with the variety of experiences that I have been able to gain from my placement year at Forge. Being part of a small team has allowed me to work with other members of the team to gain experience in other areas of the business such as Building Surveying.

Has anything surprised you about the world of work?

The main thing that surprised me most about my Placement year is the variety of work that a small company like Forge undertakes. Over the year, I have had the opportunity to visit properties across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire, the West Midlands and Derbyshire with a wide range of property types and no two properties are ever the same!

What’s next for you after graduation?

I am going to be applying for Graduate Commercial Surveyor roles and I am looking forward to applying the knowledge that I have gained from my placement year and continuing with my APC!
